Pen & ink on some heavy rag paper for my buddy Dylan’s 24th.Color was a gouache wash.
I rode into NYC on the train (about an hour) with this masterpiece under my arm while drinking some Jameson’s out of a flask with Valentine (my other buddy) to get the night started. I was working that day and had maybe and hour and a half to complete this. Considering it was my first attempt at anything of the sort, I was very pleased with this horrendous portrait of Dylan. I went into it hoping to create a disgustingly bad drawing…
Well, long story longer, HE LOVED IT as well as everyone else at the party. I even received preemptive invites to random peoples birthday celebrations so that they may too have their face destroyed by my skills.
TLDR; I worked 16 months to complete this epic masterpiece that I sold to the Met for the sum of $2.9M
I don’t think that you can be woken up in the middle of a dream. If you awake in the midst of something, it was meant to end. I feel that dreams are more telling and connected to our world than we like to believe.
